Charles Martin

Charles C. "Johnny" Martin, 85, of Clarksville, Indiana passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012. A U.S. Army veteran of the military police, Johnny was a life member of VFW Post 1832 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. A retiree of 50 years with N.G. Gilbert, he enjoyed playing cards, horseracing, golf, and bowling. Johnny was a former member of the Jeffersonville Elks' Club and an avid fan of University of Kentucky basketball and the music of Hank Williams, Sr.

Johnny was born June 19, 1927 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky to the late Charles R. and Bessie (Hobbs) Martin. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret E. (Perry) Martin, and sisters, Alta Rose and Juanita Martin.

He is survived by his children, Charles E. "Chuck" Martin (Debbie), Diane Callis, and Sue Ingle (Duane); sister, Geneva Liner; brothers, Roger, James, and Richard Martin; six grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 and 11 AM to 1 PM on Thursday at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 1 PM on Thursday at the funeral home followed by burial with military honors at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
