Charles Wesley "Sonny" Jordan, Jr., 65, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023. Charles accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, where he was active on the usher board. Charles was an avid baseball fan. He started playing little league baseball very young and the sport later would become his greatest passion. Sonny was known as a great first baseman for the Elizabethtown High School Panthers and was so skilled, he could have played pro ball out of high school. Sonny contributed in helping to lead the Panthers to a championship in the 1970s.
Sonny loved to travel and was constantly on the move. After graduating from Elizabethtown High School, he attended Sullivan College in Louisville and was a graduate of Jefferson Community College in Louisville. He was called to serve his country in the U.S. Navy, where he was an astute sailor and radio operator schooled in International Morse Coding while on board the USS Saratoga. He also worked as one of the chief computer programmers at the company and then called EDS for many years in Elizabethtown. He later moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he was one of the top United States Postal Service workers, eventually retiring in the trucking industry. The family will miss his love for the family, sharp intelligence and his way of lighting up a room with laughter. He also loved fishing and was one of the best cooks. Most importantly, he was a good Dad.
He leaves to mourn of his passing three children, Taymon Rae of Arizona, Kenyatta of Louisville and Charles W. III of Louisville, his mother, Dorothy Jordan of Elizabethtown; four sisters, Deborah Brumsey and Melissa Jordan both of Elizabethtown; Lafaye Washington (Mike) of Hodgenville and Ramona Hall of Oklahoma; mother of his children, Deborah Jordan of Louisville; plus a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and a long list of extended family, including brother John and friends, especially Tina and Gene.
A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 N Dixie Blvd, Radcliff, Kentucky 40160.
