He grew up with a passion for the Boy Scouts of America, first as a Scout himself and then as a Scout leader. He was selected by his fellow scouts to be a member of the Order of The Arrow and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He reveled in American Indian lore and dances, creating and sewing his own costumes. He stayed involved in Scouting throughout much of his life. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife Grace; son James Scott; and his brother Bob Wetherell.
Charles is survived by his sons, Lester Charles Wetherell (Margaret) and Timothy Grant Wetherell; daughter, Kathy Kaufling (Mike); and grandchildren, Michael and Katie Kaufling. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws and long-time friends who will truly miss him.
