Charles Hoffman Sr.

July 31, 1935 — March 28, 2025

Louisville

Charles Hoffman Sr., beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend peacefully departed this world on March 28, 2025, at the age of 89.

He was born on July 31, 1935, in Russell, Kentucky. After attending Russell High School, his passion for learning took root and he ventured on to the University of Louisville where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. While in Louisville, he met the love of his life, Gae Hamilton, who he later married in 1960.

His commitment and hard work led him to earn his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and healing, culminating in a distinguished career as a podiatrist. He began his career in Columbus GA before relocating to East Point GA in 1964 where they put down roots. In East Point, they lived in the same home from 1969 until relocating to Louisville KY in 2018 to be closer with his sons and grandchildren.

He enjoyed coaching his two sons’ many sports teams, playing tennis with his friends, and working with his hands. These skills helped him perform some of the construction on his cottage on Lake Lanier where his family would create many memories. When he was not working, he could be found on the water. He and his sons loved boating and wave running and would often be gone for hours at a time. He practiced podiatry until retiring in 1999. Following his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively to adore new places together. They grew their faith as members of East Point Christian Church and Southwest Christian Church. They also enjoyed supporting Christian City.

Charles epitomized compassion; his gentle spirit and unwavering dedication to caring for others were defined not just his career, but also his character. It was this nurturing nature that endeared him to those he interacted with, both personally and professionally.

As a devoted husband, Charles shared a remarkable bond with Gae, a partnership rooted in love and mutual respect. Not only were they married for 55 years, she was also the office manager most of his practice. Together, they found joy in creating a treasure trove of memories that enriched their lives. He took immense pride in watching his family grow, reveling in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, whose laughter and love were the highlights of his life.

Charles is survived by his loving son Charles "Chuck" (Lisa) Hoffman II, and his cherished grandchildren: Caroline Elizabeth Hoffman, Grant Hoffman (Colleen) and Montana Carson Hoffman. These descendants will carry forward his legacy, inspired by the values he instilled in them. The bonds he created extended beyond family; to know Charles was to know a devoted friend.

He was predeceased by his mother: Edna Irene Hoffman, father: Clarence Nathaniel Hoffman, wife: Gae Hoffman, son: Stephen Michael Hoffman, and sisters: Loretta Hoffman and Ernestine Hill.

In remembering Charles Hoffman Sr., we celebrate a life filled with love, purpose, and unwavering dedication to serving others. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, the love he shared, and the values he imparted to his family. As we bid farewell to a compassionate soul, we hold close the peace he fostered and the enduring impact he made in the world.

A private family ceremony will be held in his memory.

Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville Ky, 40243, is entrusted with his arrangements.
