New Albany, Indiana

Charles Hendricks, 87, departed this life on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. Born April 15, 1937, the son of Anne Mae Orndorff. He was raised in Adairville, Kentucky.

After completing his education, he joined the Air Force, where he served his country. After serving in the Air Force, he returned, worked and retired from CSX Transportation in Alabama.

He began making a change in his life and came to Newburg Apostolic Church with some of his family members. He joined, received the name of Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost, under the late Pastor Waverly Holland. He was a faithful member, was involved in the support of his church, ushered, and was a member of the Brotherhood Auxiliary. He continued to press his way to church. Charles continued under his new pastor, Elder Nathaniel Northington, until his illness would not allow.

He was preceded in death by his brother, James Orndorff Miles; and sister, Anne Margaret Tyler.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Alvin Major of Louisville, Kentucky, and Larry Barker of Nashville, Tennessee; one daughter, Bersheba Black of Russellville, Kentucky; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He leaves a host of relatives, church family, and friends. He also leaves a special friend, who was always there for him, Margaret Hunter, a friend to the end.

Gone, but never forgotten.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Newburg Apostolic Church, (4817 E. Indian Trail, Louisville, Kentucky 40218). His Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 pm on Monday, at the church. He will be laid to rest at New Albany National Cemetery at a later date.
