Charles William "Will" Henderson, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend, departed this world on January 11, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on November 22, 1946, Will made a significant impact on those who knew him through his warmth, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Will dedicated 37 years of his professional life to General Electric, where he served as a Union Steward for Local 761. His colleagues admired his strong will and tenacity; he was known for his ability to bring people together and advocate for their rights. A U.S. Marine Corp Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient, Will's sense of duty and honor extended far beyond his military service, shaping the way he approached both his career and his personal life.
He was a man of humor and kindness, never meeting a stranger and always ready to share a light-hearted joke. Will was deeply loved for his big heart, which radiated a sense of acceptance and understanding to all who crossed his path. He had an amazing ability to make people feel valued and important, a trait that endeared him to so many.
Among his cherished memories are the seasonal dances with his wife, Shirley, which brought joy and laughter to their lives. Will relished the time spent alongside the love of his life, creating beautiful moments filled with rhythm and romance. He also found immense pleasure in watching UK basketball, often sharing his enthusiasm for the sport with friends and family.
Will earned his GED to be an example to his son to show him that you can always achieve your goals. Will was incredibly proud of his son, Bill, who is a Louisville Metro Corrections Officer who recently earned his Associate's degree. Will’s deep-seated belief in hard work and perseverance were values he instilled in his family.
A visitation will be held on January 21, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM. Both services will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272.
