Charles "Big Dog" Harris, 92, peacefully transitioned into Eternal Life surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Known by many names, Do Daddy, GQ, Ray Charles, and Daddy O to name a few. He is best known and will be remembered by most as BIG DOG.
He was born on May 31, 1926 in Atlanta , Georgia to the late Wesley and Mary Jackson. He is also preceded in death by his son, Wesley Everett Harris and sister Alberta.
A World War II Army Veteran and Jewish Hospital Retiree. He always displayed a strong spiritual faith as a member of Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a Founding Member and President of the Petersburg Channel Chatters CB Club.
Confident, witty and extremely charismatic, he enjoyed being the center of attention in which we handled with such finesse, grace and wisdom.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Yvonne Harris Board, Ladonna Cumberlander, Dianne Everett; a longtime companion & care taker, Katie Harris and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00pm/noon at Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church (1425 Bland St, Louisville, KY 40217).
Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Kentucky Veteran Cemetery Central (2501 N Dixie Blvd, Radcliff, KY 40160).
Memorial contributions may be made to the Glaucoma Research Foundation (251 Post Street, Suite 600 San Francisco, CA 94108).
