Charles E. Donlon, age 81 of Louisville, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013. Charles gentle nature and natural ability to love others belied the giant of a man he was physically. He had strong convictions, but great tolerance for others regardless of their opinions or beliefs. His words were carefully selected to help those around him, but also to make room for their feelings and views to foster which he sure was good at. Charles had an offbeat sense of humor and adored his wife Norma, whom he was married to for 56 years and had 6 children. They shared a love in the truest sense of the word. Charles believed in living life to the fullest. One of his favorite sayings is "Never fear that your life might come to an end; rather fear that you never lived."
Charles worked in social work most all his life because he loved really getting to know the person within. He retired from Maryhurst Home in 1995 where he worked for 26 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Etelka "Tack" and Charles J. Donlon.
His memory will be cherished by his wife Norma Donlon; as well as his only daughter Catherine E. Donlon; sons, Chuck R. Donlon, Christopher M. Donlon, Stephen J. Donlon, John D. Donlon (Phyllis) and Jeffrey E. Donlon (Donna); brother, Robert L. Donlon who resides in Danville, KY.; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of this remarkable man will be held at Noon on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be 5-8pm Wednesday and after 10am Thursday until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Mass of the Air, Archdiocese of Louisville, P.O. Box 1073, Louisville, KY. 40201-1073 (stewards@archlou.org).
