Charles A. Oberhausen, 87, of Jeffersonville, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2012. He was a former employee of Girdler Corporation and retired from Jeff Boat as the plant accountant. Charlie was also the owner of Oberhausen's Tax Service for 35 years and an army veteran of WWII. Charlie was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where he was active in the parish choir for over 50 years. He truly enjoyed music and was a part of the championship Thoroughbred Chorus and championship quartet, The Downsmen.
Charles was born on July 19, 1924 in Tell City, IN to the late Anton N. and Philomena E. "Minnie" (Birchler) Oberhausen. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Susan; brothers, Francis, Anthony, Louis, and Ralph.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Constance (Brown) Oberhausen; children, David (Barbara Finn), Joan Brooks (Darryl), Maria, James, Teresa, Paul (Jacqueline), Joseph (Leslie); sister, Marie Clemens of Tell City; 18 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, January 25 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A rosary prayed at 4 PM and a prayer/memories service at 7 PM on Wednesday. His Funeral Mass will be at 11 AM on Thursday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with burial and military honors to follow at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Jeffersonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
