Catherine Theresa Burns

Catherine T. (Kaye) Burns passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011 at Nazareth Home in Louisville, KY. Kaye was born on Jan 7, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York. She married William J. Burns on July 21, 1945; their 65 years of marriage were the happiest ones of her life. Kaye joined her new husband in Germany at the end of WWII; her daughter, Barbara, and son, Stephen, were born there. After returning to civilian life the family lived in Maryland for 56 years before moving to Louisville. Kaye was preceded in death by her husband, William; parents, Gus and Mamie Schoendorf; brothers Charles and Edward; sister-in-law Catherine Werner; and brother–in-law Bud Werner.

Kaye was a wonderful hostess and gourmet cook. She loved entertaining family and friends and was happiest when surrounded by family. She looked forward to summer gatherings in Long Island and Cape Cod. She loved traveling with her husband, reading, sewing, and playing bridge.

Kaye is survived by her son Stephen (Sylvia) Burns and Barbara Andrew; six grandchildren, Megan (Jake) Heiser , Quinn Andrew, Casey Andrew, Dylan Andrew, Christopher Burns and Kerry Burns; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Caleb Heiser. She dearly loved her nieces and nephew, Trudy, Lorry, Kathy, and John, who also survived her.

Mass of celebration will be 10:30 am Saturday, October 22, 2011 from St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 212 Mount Mercy Drive Pewee Valley, Kentucky with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7pm Friday at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown.
