Catherine Smith

Long-time Floyd County resident, Catherine Smith, died Saturday, September 6 at Providence Retirement Home. She was 80. Born in her parents' home in 1934 near Galena, Catherine worked for many years at Arni's Pizza on State Street, and worshipped for many more years at Galena Methodist Church in Galena. Always cheerful, Catherine was known by many as one who would often make others laugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace "Smitty" Smith; brothers, William Dohoney of Bradford; Gene Dohoney of New Albany; and Curtis Dohoney of Edwardsville; and her sister, Mary Francis Jensen of New Albany.

She is survived by her sisters, Carol Lamb (Ron) of Floyds Knobs, Linda Freeman of New Albany, and Mazetta Whalen (Joe) of Bennetsville.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Galena Cemetery.
