To our family, friends, colleagues, and fellow artists, we are saddened to inform you that Casey Schaftlein passed away Sunday morning, 10/02/22. He was at home with his family and passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Producing music and collaborating with fellow artists were two of Casey's greatest passions, alongside his son Indigo and his love and mother of his child Kristen Bryant. Some referred to him as DJKC, Music Intel, or Coach, but we knew him as son, brother, cousin, partner, and father.
Casey moved from Memphis to Kentucky in 2005. While meeting some of you at that time and making lifelong friendships, Casey began making beats on a cracked iPod Touch. Many years (and many iPod Touches) later, he grew into the man we all knew and loved, the artist we all listened to and admired.
Casey graduated from Oldham County High School in 2014. He received an Audio Engineering Certification from Lexington School for the Recording Arts in 2016.
He produced music for the underground (literally in his parent's basement) and high-quality studio tracks until his untimely passing. Wherever he could hang foam and a microphone, you'd find Music Intel.
His talents were as bold as his eyebrows were bushy. His laugh was as contagious as it was genuine.
It's not his final album; it's just a new track.
Casey is survived by his mother and father, Rita and Randy Schaftlein, his sisters Amy Schaftlein and Kim Williamson, his brother Lucas Schaftlein, and his son Indigo Bryant.
To you, his friends, colleagues, and fellow artists, we invite you to celebrate the life of our son, brother, cousin, partner, and father.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions East Louisville, (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).
