Mrs. Carrie "Kay" Frances Grady entered into eternal rest on December 25, 2022 after her battle with COVID/pneumonia at the age of 78 years old. Carrie was the daughter of a union of 14 siblings. She was born on January 3, 1944 in Taylor County, Kentucky to the late Owen Milburn Turner and Mary Barbara Thorton Calhoun-Turner. She was born at home on the family farm off of Highway 210.
Mrs. Grady accepted Christ in her life at a very young age and was a lifelong member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Kentucky, until her health issues prevented her from attending. She also sang in the choir. Mrs. Grady attended Durham High School, where she was a cheerleader DHS Hornets Basketball Team.
On September 16, 1960, at the age of 15 years old, Mrs. Grady was united in marriage to her late husband, James Glen Grady. Together, they had 6 children. Their firstborn daughter, Vernetta Lee Turner-Grady, born on July 23, 1960, passed away at just one day old. They also had a son, James Travis Grady; daughter, Margo Tane Grady; daughter, Ginevra Carol Grady; son, Glen Stephen Grady; son, Greg Christopher Grady; and son, Tony Darrell Grady.
Mrs. Grady was a woman of strong faith. She was a sweet, adorable, kind-hearted, and caring person. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was truly a warrior and a social butterfly - she never met a stranger! She also had a wonderful sense of humor. Mrs. Grady was known to many as "Momma Grady."
She and her late husband raised their children in Columbia, Kentucky, with her late mother-in-law (Nina Lee Johnston-Grady), late sister-in-law (Maxine Grady-Lasley), and other family. She always raised her children to have strong morals, values, and to be helpful, respectful children, but most of all - to know Christ.
Mrs. Grady loved her soap operas, TV game shows, westerns, and Lifetime movies. She enjoyed playing the lottery. She loved her children, grandchildren, and family! She enjoyed talking on the phone, cooking, baking, and feeding all her family, friends, and community.
As a family (including the children), she, her husband, and her mother-in-law raised their own gardens, tobacco, cattle, pigs, and more. She was well-known for the best fried chicken, baked ham and turkeys, greens, cakes, hand-canned sweet pickles, and vegetables.
