Caroline Molnar Coffield, age 86, recently of Louisville (previously of Ypsilanti, Michigan) passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011.
Caroline was the loving wife of Thomas H. Coffield for 41 years, and proud devoted mother of Thomas A. Coffield and James H. Coffield Caroline was known for her zest for life, endless optimism, passion for politics, and love of Belgian lace-making.
Caroline was born in Detroit, and had many stories about growing up during the Depression, falling in love with her childhood sweetheart, and marrying during World War II. She supported her husband through his college and post-doctoral years, and lived in Europe for 10 years. During her years living in Belgium, she studied Belgian bobbin lace-making for 8 years. Upon returning to the U.S., Caroline published a book on Belgian bobbin lace-making, exhibited her lace across the U.S., and won awards for her lace from the Great Lakes Lace Group.
Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Coffield. Caroline is survived by her two sons, Thomas A. Coffield of Louisville and James H. Coffield of Pittsburgh; daughter-in-law Barbara Benjamin Coffield; and four granddaughters, Emily and Rachel Coffield of Louisville, and Elizabeth and Isabella Coffield of Pittsburgh. She has many beloved friends in the Detroit area. Caroline's last years were spent in great comfort at the Forum at Brookside in Louisville.
A celebration of Caroline's life will be at Ascension Lutheran Church, Thursday, April 21 at 6:00 p.m. Caroline's remains will be interred on Friday, April 22 at Fort Custer National Cemetery near Battle Creek, MI next to her beloved husband.
