Carl E. Sears, 79, of New Albany died peacefully at Floyd Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 with his family at his side. Carl worked over 41 years for Mutual Trust Bank in New Albany and retired as Vice President-Cashier. He was a past member of Georgetown Christian Church where he served many years as a deacon, elder, and treasurer. Carl was a current member of Scottsville Christian Church in Floyds Knobs since 1995 where he served as an elder for several years and as the current church treasurer.
He was a charter member of the Georgetown Optimist Club, an honorary member of the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Georgetown High School Alumni Association, and a member of the Floyd County Historical Society. Carl volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels and delivered meals to shut-ins for over 11 years. He also worked with local volunteer fire departments for over 25 years collecting donations for the WHAS Crusade for Children.
Carl was born on October 28, 1931 in New Albany to the late Grover and Bertha (Martin) Sears. He is also preceded in death by his stepfather, Edward Bobbitt, four stepsisters, and two stepbrothers. He was married to the former Judith Pavey of Hardinsburg, Indiana on April 6, 1958.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy; sons, Barry Sears and his wife, Denise and Scott Sears and his wife, Kathy, all of New Albany; grandchildren, Frank "Buddy" (Eva) Royalty, Amanda (Brad) Lienhart, Joshua Sears, Allyson Sears, Jessica Sears, and Lauren Dapice; great-grandchildren, Logan and Braydan Lienhart, Eva Ingalls, Jeremiah and Gracie Royalty; stepsisters, Jeannette Pearcy of Westfield, Indiana, Margaret Duvall of Wesley Chapel, Florida, and Grace Click of Sellersburg; sister-in-law, Kay Schaffer of Jeffersonville, Indiana; brothers-in-law, Keith Pavey (Barbara) of North Carolina, Jon Pavey of Indianapolis, Dale Pavey of Hardinsburg, Indiana, Kent Pavey (Ina) of California, and Jim Pavey (Kate) of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tom and Libby Dalby.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM on Saturday, November 27, 2010 and 2 to 6 PM on Sunday, November 28 at Newcomer Funeral Home – New Albany (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). The Funeral Service will be at 10 AM on Monday, November 29, 2010 in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Wolfe Cemetery in Georgetown, Indiana.
