BURL ARTIE BROWN, SR. (85), of Middletown, died Thursday evening at Veteran's Hospital. Born in Wheatcroft, Kentucky, he was a WWII veteran (navy). He attended Western Kentucky University and the University of Louisville. He was a salesperson and entrepreneur. He owned several filling stations around Louisville, the last being Eastwood Oil Company on U.S. 60. He was known for his friendly nature and storytelling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee and Rusha Farmer Brown, as well as his siblings Gladys White, Jewell Hughes, Jimmie Snider, and Collins Brown. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean Caudill Brown; his sons, Burl, Jr. "Skip", and Richard Taylor Brown (Bobbie); a sibling, Genave Franklin; and his grandsons, Skip Daniel "Danny" Brown and Cameron Alexander Brown.
There will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, all expressions of sympathy are asked to be made as a donation to the VA Medical Center's Hospice Unit, GPF #524 (mailed to Voluntary Service, VAMC 800 Zorn Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206). These selfless individuals worked tirelessly to make the last days of his life pain-free, peaceful and dignified. They went above and beyond their job descriptions, and their kindness will never be forgotten.
