Brenda Kay Hughes

Brenda Kay Hughes, a devoted mother and grandmother, passed away on September 16, 2024. Born on December 2, 1950, in New Albany, Indiana, Brenda lived a life marked by kindness, creativity, and strength.

Brenda dedicated 25 years of her life to the Census Bureau, a career that reflected her commitment to serving others. An avid gardener, Brenda found solace in nurturing plants and flowers, allowing her love for nature to flourish in her home. Her love for music and singing ran deep. An eye for home decorating made her a warm and inviting presence; her clean and vibrant home was a reflection of her personality.

Brenda’s proudest accomplishment was the deep love she held for her family, especially her grandchildren. Dawn Mills-Bandy (Tony) and Krystal Moore, her beloved daughters, were the heart of her world. She reveled in the joy her grandkids brought her-Levi Mills, Garrett Bandy, Hannah Sweet, and Gage VanAllen-each of whom held a special place in her heart and were beneficiaries of her endless love. She is also survived by her three sisters and one brother.

Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Howard Hughes and Lucille Clemmons Hughes, in addition to one brother and one sister. 

Though Brenda has departed from this world, her spirit continues to shine brightly through those who loved her. Her love for her family, her passions, and her unwavering spirit of kindness will endure forever in the hearts of those she touched.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, at the funeral home. Cremation will follow in accordance with Brenda's wishes.
