Bobby Dean Sims

July 16, 1955 — March 19, 2024

Bobby Dean Sims, born on July 16, 1955, passed away on March 19, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. He was one of five sons born to Bill and Christina Sims.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Dale and Larry. He leaves behind his loving wife of 38 years, Doris Young Sims. He is also survived by his pride and joy....his sons Corey (Jenna) and Dale (Sarah); his precious grandchildren Emma, Addie, Chloe, and Calvin; his dear brothers Howard (Laura) and Glenn; his beloved Maltipoo, Molly, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a multitude of family and friends who held him dear.

Bobby attended Holy Name for grade school and graduated from Manual High School in 1973. He dedicated many years of his life to his work as a welder, steel fabricator, and machinist at various companies, including Brown & Williamson, Lemco, Alro and Zoeller Pump Co, where he eventually retired.

Bobby's life changed for the better when he met a sweet, young girl who captured his heart. They married in 1985 when he was 30 years old, and his dreams of having a child came true when he was blessed with not just one, but two sons. He cherished every moment of being a dad, teaching them sports, coaching their teams, and sharing his love of fishing and wrestling. Bobby was always there to provide support as well as advice (sometimes unsolicited), always looking out for their best interests. Being Pops to his three granddaughters and one grandson brought immense joy to Bobby's life. He enjoyed every minute he spent with them.

Aside from his family, Bobby had numerous passions and hobbies. He was an accomplished pool player and even competed in Vegas twice. He treasured Sunday card games with his family, fun-filled fishing trips with his buddy Robert Stettler and playing pinball. Bobby took pride in his remodeling projects, including the construction of a beautiful gazebo, a pond with a waterfall and bridge, and many other endeavors. He loved gardening especially growing tomatoes and making the best pickles anyone had ever tasted. Bobby's love for classic rock especially the Beatles was well-known, and he had perfected his rendition of his favorite song, "Rocky Raccoon," for karaoke nights. Lighting up South Louisville during Christmas with his extensive collection of blow molds and animated decor drew visitors from far and wide.

Bobby will be remembered for his selflessness and willingness to help out countless friends and family members, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. His departure has left a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. However, Bobby's legacy of love will endure and continue to inspire future generations.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Bobby Sims will be held on Sunday, April 7 from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Recbar, 10301 Taylorsville Road, Jeffersontown, KY 40299.
