Blanche Brackens, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, surrounded by her loving husband, Odell Brackens, Jr., and family members who cherished the time they spent together. She was born on October 16, 1951, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and lived a life marked by kindness, love and dedication to those around her.
Blanche and Odell shared an extraordinary bond, a partnership that exemplified true love and commitment. Though they never had children of their own, they opened their hearts and home to children in need, nurturing and supporting them as if they were their own. Their nieces and nephews held a special place in Blanche’s heart, as she and Odell embraced their role as loving guardians and mentors to young lives, creating lifelong memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know them.
A woman of grace and generosity, Blanche was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her compassionate spirit touched the lives of many, and her ability to uplift those around her made her a beloved figure among her family and friends. Her laughter resonated loudly during gatherings, and her joy for life was evident as she indulged in her favorite hobbies such as playing Bingo, visiting the casino, bowling, and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the Kentucky State Fair.
Blanche’s memory is a treasure that will forever linger in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She is survived by her husband, Odell; her sister, Luctricia Holbrook; her brothers, Arthur McPheeters, Kenneth (Ellen) McPheeters; her sisters, Mary Ann Holbrook, and Marney Holbrook; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends whose lives she touched in enduring ways.
Blanche joins her deceased family members in eternal rest, including her parents, Frank and Patricia Holbrook, and her brothers, Roy Holbrook, Michael McPheeters, Frank Holbrook, Jr., and Keith McPheeters. Their spirits, intertwined with hers, will continue to echo in the love that she exuded during her lifetime.
A visitation to honor Blanche's life will take place on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, where family and friends are invited to celebrate the beautiful memories and legacy she leaves behind.
In this time of mourning, we remember Blanche Brackens not just for the years she lived but for the profound impact she had on the lives of others. Her loving spirit will continue to inspire and comfort those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, forever surrounded by love.
