Billy Ray King, 94, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022. Billy was born on January 17, 1928 in Jellico, Tennessee to Thomas & Lena King, and was raised alongside three siblings. He went on to graduate from Corbin High School.
Billy was a proud Veteran, serving his country as part of the United States Navy "Seabees", the construction battalion. After coming home, he went on to marry the love of his life, Evelyn "Faye" King, and together they raised one son.
Billy and his family were inaugural members of NASCAR. Billy was a member of King's Truck Town in Corbin, Kentucky. He was a licensed pilot and flew recreationally. He was also one of the first guides on Lake Cumberland when it was impounded in 1952. He had been a member of Douglas Hills Church of Christ since 1984.
Billy is preceded by his wife, Evelyn "Faye" King; his parents, Thomas & Lena King; his siblings, Cecil King Wallen, T.L. "Bubby" King, & Sam King, and his nephew, Jeffrey King. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son, Scott Alan (Lisa) King; his grandchildren, Sgt. Hunter M. King USMC & Leah J. King; a nephew, Danny Wallen, and his nieces, Becky King & Jennifer McDaniel.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Reception (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY) from 4:00pm – 8:00pm, as well as Friday, July 1, 2022, from 10:00am – 11:00am with service to follow beginning at 11:00am. Burial will take place at Grove Hill Cemetery (458 Mt Eden Rd, Shelbyville, KY 40065).
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the "Wounded Warrior Bowfishin Bash" (Fern Creek Sportman Club, P.O Box 91871, Louisville, KY 40291). Traditional checks can be made out to "Fern Creek Sportsman's Club" with the memo field stating, "Bill King memorial".
