Bettye J. Smith

Bettye J. Smith, 87, of Louisville, KY peacefully passed away on November 10, 2023. Born on September 28, 1936 to Joe and Mary Towery (Stallings) of Owensboro, Kentucky. She was a parishioner of St. Gabriel Church in Louisville.

She graduated from Murray State University with a BS in Nursing. Her nursing career spanned nearly 45 years from Owensboro to Louisville, Kentucky.
Nursing was her passion, but quilting and volunteer work dominated her spare time. She was blessed and honored with numerous nursing and quilting awards throughout her life. Bettye was a generous person devoted to caring for others in need as a nurse and through her quilting ministry in various quilting clubs sewing quilts for Norton Children's Hospital and women's shelters.

Mom is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony "Leon" Smith, and is survived by her two sons, Mike (Dana) and Mark (Carol) Smith, 4 grandsons, and 6 great-granddaughters. May Bettye rest in peace.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 14th from 3 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive). A Funeral Mass will be the following day at 11:30 am at St. Gabriel Catholic Church (5505 Bardstown Road) with burial following at Jeffersontown Cemetery.
