Betty Lou Phelps, 79, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Betty was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt B and friend to all. She loved volunteering at the food bank and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
She was born on January 28, 1945 in Louisville, Kentucky to Naomi Shain. She is preceded in death by her mother, Naomi (Shain) Heffington; and husband, Leland Phelps.
Betty is survived by her loving family, son, Todd (Betty) Abney; daughter, Lynn (Steven) Ray; grandchildren, Lacey (Matthew) Pardue, Shain Abney, Aloria Ray, Isabella Ray, Dorian Ray; great-grandchildren, Arabella Pardue, Ryker Pardue; brothers, James (Margaret) Shain, Ricky (Hope) Vaughn; as well as a host of extended family and friends to cherish her loving memory forever.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. A celebration of her life will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel. She will be laid to rest privately at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Kentucky at a later date.
Betty's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
