Betty Sue Hughes

Betty Sue Hughes, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, at the age of 78, in Clarksville, Indiana. Born on January 16, 1946, in Burkesville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Payton and Olean (Wray) Ooten. Betty's dedication and hard work were evident in her role as a custodian for the Clarksville School Corporation, where she left an indelible mark through her commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment for students and staff alike.

In her personal life, Betty was known for taking great pride in her garden and flower beds. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Ruth Ann Pate, and brother, Jackie Ooten. Betty is survived by her husband, Leroy Hughes, who shared many years of companionship and support with her. She is also survived by her cousins: James Wray (Vivian), Carol Middleton, Karl Wray (Lori), Russell Wray, and Ruby Wray.

A visitation for family and friends will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
