Betty Jean Ferris, 73, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2022 at The Springs at Stony Brook. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 18, 1949.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Arthur Newton and Marjorie Marcum Ferris, nephew Dusty Price and devoted friend Kathleen Shannon Deaver.
Betty was a graduate of Seneca High School Class of 1967 and graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. She started her teaching career at Thomas Jefferson High School and later transferred to Southern High School where she continued until her retirement in 2000. Betty was an excellent math teacher and active in the Jefferson County Teachers Association.
One of Betty's greatest joys was traveling throughout the United States and Europe with Kathleen and friends. She was an avid reader and long time member of a book club. Her family and friends have all benefited from her love of needle working, whether it was cozy afghans, scarves or decorative gifts. Music played an important part in her life from progressive bluegrass to classical favorites. Betty adored all dogs, especially her dachshund Mitzi and also enjoyed watching her friends pets.
Betty is survired by her brother Bob Ferris (Joan), sister Beverly Collis, nephews Richard Collis (Diana) and Shane Ware (Danielle), nieces Connie Torres (Jose ) and Tammy Lingos (Frank) great nephews Alex and Christopher Torres, great-great nephews Huxley and Grey Torres and many close friends.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on Monday, June 27th, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive). Her funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm at the funeral home and burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
