Beryl G. Johnson

Mr. Beryl G. Johnson, age 79 of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away January 21, 2010 at Meadowview Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on March 18, 1930 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the son of the late Clel and Vera Livingston Johnson. His wife of 47 years, Betty Jo (Joan) Pehrson Johnson and his sister, Margie Johnson Hagness preceded him in death. "Butch", as he was known during his youth, spent most of his childhood in Mondovi, Wisconsin. He was active in sports and went on to college at Eau Claire State in Wisconsin and Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict and later graduated from the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis, with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He worked as an Executive Director for the YMCA for 23 years in Marion, Ohio; also in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Rochester, New York; and Torrington, Connecticut. After retiring, he and his wife sold their house and spent a year exploring the United States. He settled in Wilmington, NC, where he spent many happy years as an avid golfer. After losing his wife to cancer, he moved to Louisville, Ky. to be closer to his eldest son.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his four children, Elizabeth Johnson (Brian Desmond) of Suffield, CT, Scott Johnson (Kim) of Louisville, Todd Johnson of Torrington, CT, Maredith Johnson Arcuri (Joseph) of Harwinton, CT. Also surviving are eight Grandchildren.

A Memorial Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 837 Charles Street, Torrington, CT. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the adjoining Congregational Hall. Memorial gifts may be made to Hosparus.
