Bertha Buckner, 94, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023. Bertha was a loving, kind mother and grandmother. She was a volunteer foster granny for many years. She was baptized at Greater Salem Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, participated in choir, and culinary committee. She retired from St. Anthony Hospital after 37 faithful years in food service. She also attended Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church, Forest Baptist Church, and a faithful member of Burnett Ave. Baptist Church. She never met a stranger and everyone loved "Nanny Granny", Bertha will truly be missed by anyone and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was born on September 8, 1929 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to Sol and Beatrice (McDonald) Smith. She is preceded in death by her Father, Sol Smith, Mother, Beatrice Fletcher, Husband, James A. Buckner, Son, James A. Buckner, Jr., Grandchildren, Drummondo Allen, Ralph Buckner, Jr., Brothers, Jimmie Smith, James Fletcher, Alvin Fletcher, and Marvin Lee Fletcher.
Bertha is survived by her loving family, Children, Ralph E. (Young Hui) Buckner, Sandra (Larry) Allen, and Priscilla I. Ford; Grandchildren, Taji (John) Maddox, LaHondra Allen, Damon (Katie) Ford, Shanna (Jacoby) Hinkle, Nathan Buckner, Sr., Demetrius Allen, Mina Buckner, Karla Sweet, Angela (William) Thomas, and a host of Great-Grandchildren, Great-Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends to cherish her loving memory forever.
