Bernard A. Day, 96, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Bernard was a member of the K of C Cardinal Ritter Council #1221 and the Providence H.S. Booster Club. He was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Albany, where he participated in the church Men's Club and helped design and build the outdoor shrine for the Blessed Mother. Bernard was the co-owner of Day Lumber Company in New Albany and retired in 1977.
Bernard was born on February 27, 1915 in New Albany to the late Clemence and Mary Louise (Weber) Day. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Frances (Grantz) Day; brothers, Clem Day, Paul Day, Edgar Day; sisters, Agnes Mohney and Dorothy Naville.
He is survived by his children, Jim Day (Liz), Charley Day (Pat), Bernie Day (Jeannie), Rosemary Killen; sister, Frances Gibson; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 AM to 2 PM on Tuesday April 19, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church (415 E. Eighth Street, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 PM on Tuesday at the church with burial to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New Albany. Newcomer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Providence H.S., Mount St. Francis Center for Spirituality, or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
