Barbara Ray Schmitt, 84, of Louisville, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Saturday, June 1, 2024. She was born on February 13, 1940 in Louisville to the late Emerson Ray and Dorothy Gernert. Barbara was a Registered Nurse in Louisville for 48 years. She was a parishioner at the Cathedral of the Assumption for over 30 years, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and on the Bereavement Committee.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Cope; and her grandparents, Clarence Emerson and Anna Katherine Ray.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 63 years John Anthony "Tony" Schmitt; sister, Sara Jones; children, Michael Schmitt (Audrey), Theresa Isaacs (Darryl), Stephen Schmitt (Shannon), and Barbie Sharp; 15 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 5th from 4 to 8 pm at Newcomer, East Louisville (235 Juneau Drive). A Funeral Mass will be the next day at 12 pm at the Cathedral of the Assumption (433 S 5th Street).

Memorial contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to Kosair Children's Hospital.
