Barbara Jane Hemphill

Barbara Jane Hemphill, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2020 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Born December 24th, 1938, she was raised in Goodwater, Alabama and then ventured on to attend college at Auburn University where she met her loving husband George. Later she finished her Associate Degree at Jacksonville Community College in Jacksonville, North Carolina. As a Marine Corps wife for 20 years, she and her family lived in many different locations. While Barbara enjoyed being a house wife and lovingly raising her three daughters she also worked as an executive secretary for Liberty National Bank and Bank One of Louisville. She enjoyed reading, decorating, a variety of crafts and sharing her love for painting. She was a devoted member of Crestwood United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Theo Hawkins and Jane Neighbors Hawkins and her two brothers Willie Theo "Sonny" Hawkins, Jr. and Cleve Hawkins.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, George Lewis Hemphill, Jr., her three loving daughters Beverly Tudor (Bim), Brenda McClure (Tom) and Jennifer Walrod (Shawn), sisters Dona Patterson (Doug) and Kay Nail (Jim), sister-in-law Gail Hawkins, grandchildren Hunter and Janie Smith, George and Jack McClure, and Nikki and Albert Tudor, Stanley, Meryl and Ivy Walrod, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at dates to be determined at Crestwood United Methodist Church 7214 Kavanaugh Road Crestwood, KY 40014 and also in Kellyton, Alabama at Kellyton United Methodist Church.
