Barbara Ann (O'Neal) Harrison passed away in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky on December 18, 2022 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital.
Barbara was born October 4, 1938 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky to the late, Noble O'Neal and Lillian Ida (Ulmer) O'Neal. Barbara is preceded in death by her three brothers, Harvey Lee O'Neal (Carolyn), Nobel O'Neal (Carole) and Frank Ronald O'Neal (Faye, Elizabeth) and half brother, Charles Richard Rogiers (Eva). Barbara and her three older brothers were raised at Brooklawn Children's Home in Louisville, Kentucky after their father died of Tuberculosis at age 28 and their Mother no longer had the means to feed them.
Barbara was a loving, devoted wife to Augustus "Gus" Harrison and mother to daughters, Gail Cavanah (Steve) and Terri Harrison. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Justin (Kim), Andrew (Lavinia), Travis and Allison; as well as her great-grandchildren (Ashton, Haley, Chloe, Evalyn, and Rhya) and her many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Barbara graduated from Atherton High School in Louisville, Kentucky. During her lifetime she was employed in numerous occupations: Dime Store Cashier, Park Ariel Surveys (where she met her future husband), Bookkeeper at Thrifty Rent A Car, Snyder's Department Store and Enro Shirt Factory. She volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and PTA President at Hartstern Elementary School. She also enjoyed raising and grooming poodles. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing with the Summer Sounds Square Dance Club. They also enjoyed gardening and visiting family.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ where she volunteered as the children's Sunday School President and Youth Group Leader. She also played third base on the church softball team and was quite a homerun hitter! She sewed most of her daughter's dresses when they were young and she made the wedding veil for her daughter Gail's wedding.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 23, 2022 starting at 1:00 PM until the time of the service at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243). Her funeral will be at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park at a later date (4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40218).
