Barbara Kay Eckhoff, 72, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 with her loving family by her side. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend.
Barbara was born on March 8, 1950 to Helen and James McGonagle in Newark, Ohio. She attended Newark Catholic High School. She met her future husband Tom in 1972 and they got married in January of 1975. Soon after, they decided to start their family and their son Mike and daughter Lisa were born in Hobart, Indiana. With their young children in hand, they moved to Louisville, KY in 1983. Upon the children starting school at Mother of Good Counsel, Barbara became a very active volunteer in the school community and took joy in being able to see her kids during the day. She then acted as a histology technician for several years while also serving as a beloved stay-at-home mother. Barbara and Tom owned and operated a deli in Oxmoor Mall in 1992 which they ran until 2001. She later joined Republic Bank as a banking assistant where she eventually retired from in 2012. In 2015, Barbara helped move her parents to Louisville where she provided loving care until they preceded her death. Barbara and Tom recently moved into the The Grand senior living community where she was an active crafter and bingo-er as well as a dear friend to all that got to know her.
Barbara is survived by her adoring Husband of 47 years, Thomas Eckhoff. Barbara and Thomas raised two wonderful children, Lisa (Eric) McKinney and Mike (Diane) Eckhoff. Barbara was also a treasured grandmother to Kaylie and Abby Eckhoff.
Barbara is also survived by her close-knit siblings, Brother, James Patrick (Carolyn) McGonagle; Sister, Mary Marsha (Larry) Mikeworth; Sister, Kathleen Sue (Richard, deceased) Koegle; and Sister, Diane Marie (Donald) DeWitte.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243 and also from 9 to 10am on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church 6500 St. Bernadette Ave. Prospect, KY 40059 with Mass of Celebration to follow at 10am.
