Arthur "Art" B. Smith, 70, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Evelyn Smith.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jane Massey Smith. He was the proud father of daughters Maryl Smith and Meredith Smith. Art is survived by his favorite (and only) grandson, Zachary Kvindis. He is also survived by his sister, Sandy Smith McKnight.
Art was born on November 30, 1951 in Fort Worth, Texas and later moved to Louisville with his mother, Pauline. He was a graduate of Manual High School and while there was actively involved in anything involving art. He was an excellent, self-taught artist- a hobby he enjoyed throughout his life. Following high school he attended Eastern Kentucky University where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He often spoke fondly of his time at EKU and enjoyed showing his daughters and grandson the college campus whenever he had a chance. After college he met his beloved wife, Jane Smith and they started their family.
Arthur was employed by United Parcel Service as a feeder driver and was an active member of the Teamsters union. He retired in 2017 after 41 years of service. He had a love for cars and boats and enjoyed spending his retirement modifying his Ford Mustang. He was the type of guy who knew something about everything and loved being able to share his knowledge with anyone who asked. Art was known for his quick wit, sense of humor and had an uncanny ability to put anyone at ease.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Louisville, (235 Juneau Drive). His Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions in Arthur's memory may be made to the family to assist with his loving grandson's college fund.
