Armond G. Abbott, 79, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in New Albany. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Armond was a member of American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post 28 where he was a past member of the Executive Board, VFW Hobart Beach Post 1693, and of the VFW Color Guard. He was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Ritter Council No. 1221, the Redmen's Club, the Silvertoners, and Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany. Armond was a well-known fan of the New Albany Bulldogs.
Armond was born on September 12, 1931 in Salem, Indiana to the late Ernest and Ida Ruth (Sweeney) Abbott. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Abbott.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dolores A. (Jacobi) Abbott; daughter, Diana Huber; stepson, John Lozon (Sheila); grandchildren, Jonathan Lozon (Heather), Emily Lozon (Bill Forster), Jamie Huber (Allyson), Katherine Lozon, and Lisa Huber; brother, William Abbott; and sister, Carolyn Dean.
The visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a Rosary Service at 3:30 PM. His Funeral Service is Friday, July 29 at 10 AM with military honors to follow. Burial at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany will take place at a later date.
