CLARK, ANNIE LAURIE POLK , 94, passed away peacefully in Louisville on December 30, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lt. Col. Alfred V. "Jay" Clark of Bradenton, FL.
She is survived by her son, Alfred V. Clark Jr. (Grace), of Boulder, CO; her daughter, Janice Ann Schindler (Ted), of Louisville; son, David Lance Clark (Nancy), of Hague, NY; four grandchildren, Nick (Margi) and Laurie (Josh) Schindler and Brennan and Devin Clark; and four great-grandchildren Blaine, Colby, Payton and Luis Schindler.
She was born October 1, 1917 to Lilla Belle and Albert Clark Polk of Arcadia, FL. She was a graduate of DeSoto High School in Arcadia and graduated from Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) with a degree in home economics. Upon graduation she began her teaching career at Williston High School in Williston, FL where she met her future husband, the vice-principal and coach of the football team. They were married August 2, 1940 at Trinity Methodist Church in Arcadia.
Jay served in the 101st Airborne and 6th Armored Divisions in World War II and became a career Army officer. The Clark family lived in Japan, Texas, Germany and Maryland. Annie Laurie taught in the Carroll Co. (MD) school district from 1960 until her retirement in 1980. In 1984 she and her husband moved to Bradenton, FL where they were active in the Manatee County Historical Society. Annie Laurie was a volunteer at the Manatee Pioneer Village where she especially enjoyed re-creating life in pioneer times for visiting groups of schoolchildren. She and Jay were also active in the 6th Armored Division Association. In 2000 they participated in the final reunion of the 6th Armored Div. Assoc in Louisville, and then moved to the Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg MD. Col. Clark passed away in 2003 and was interred in Arlington National Cemetery. Annie Laurie moved to Louisville in 2007 to be closer to her extended family and great-grandchildren. She also loved her many visits to be with family in Colorado and upstate New York.
Annie Laurie will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers, physicians and management of Atria Springfield, Magnolia Springs, and Meadowview for the love and compassion shown their mother during her stay at each facility.
