Anna Mae Smith

October 21, 1935 — February 9, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anna Mae Smith, who graced our lives for 89 wonderful years. Anna departed from this world on February 9, 2025.

Born on October 21, 1935, in Bardstown Junction, Kentucky, Anna was the cherished daughter of the late Frank James and Mary Stella (Biven) Hodge. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, David Allen Smith, grandson, Joshua Smith, siblings, Paul James Hodge, Wilson Hodge, Walter B. Hodge, Virginia Kiser and Geraldine Allen, along with her daughter in-law, Sandra Smith and son in-law, Ronnie Lee Cureton.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, whose heart was filled with love for her family. Anna will be dearly missed by her devoted daughter, Shirley Ann Cureton, and son, Audrey Lee Smith. She leaves behind precious memories with her grandchildren, Terrah Dawn (David) Waynick and Amanda Leigh (Larry Zeznanski) Smith, along with her great-grandchildren, Kristen Clark, Hannah Clark, Lillyann Brook, and her great-great grandson, Milo Kingston. She also held a special place in her heart for her cherished grandchildren in the Lord—Effie Deshazier, Jeannie Snyder, and Mary Tandy.

Throughout her life, Anna embodied the essence of compassion and caregiving. She dedicated herself to loving and nurturing those around her, instilling this same spirit in her children. Anna was her daughter’s biggest inspiration and cheerleader, supporting her pursuit of a compassionate career in nursing.

Anna’s nurturing nature extended beyond her family. She found joy in raising chickens, tending to her beautiful garden, canning her harvests, and enjoying the company of her beloved dogs—Mark, Lucky, Gennie Lee, and Sara Ann. Each day was filled with the simple pleasures that brought her immense joy and comfort.

Her unwavering devotion to her family was beautifully matched by her deep faith. A stalwart member of the Douglass Hills Church of Christ, Anna's life was richly woven with prayer, Bible study, and the loving support of her church family. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her journey, providing strength and solace in every season of life.
