Anna M. (Smith) Roth, 93, died at Guerin Woods on January 30, 2013. She was a first-generation American and served in the Women's Army Air Corps during WWII. Anna was a hairdresser, an avid card player, excellent gardener, and attentive grandmother and known as GG to the newest generation. In the last years, Anna attended St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church but was also a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and their Prime Timers Club.
Anna was born Feb 4, 1919 in Harrisburg, Illinois, one of nine children: Frank, Mary Kiska, Steve, John, and Carl Smith (deceased) and survived by Rosalie Sanders, Paul (Lovetta) and Andy Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer H. (Jeff) Roth. Anna and Palmer met in the service and settled in Louisville and Southern Indiana to raise five children: Peg Fey, Marci Oliver (deceased), Alice Roth, Pete Roth (Lu Ann), Lisa Schultz, and bonus son, Tony Hedrick (Debbie). Grandchildren are Sherry, Don, Keeley, Brad, Duke, Jeff, Josh, Carlye, Palmer, Brianna, Charles and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Visitation will be Monday, February 4, 2 to 8 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Tuesday, February 5, at St Mary of Knobs (3033 Martin Road, Floyd Knobs). Anna's final resting place will be in Harrisburg, Illinois, with her parents.
Anna believed supporting unwed mothers was the best way to oppose abortion so contributions in her honor may be made to St. Elizabeth Maternity and Adoption Service/Catholic Charities (601 East Market Street, New Albany, IN 47150).
