Anna Elizabeth Eckert

Anna E. Eckert went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2011. She was born on December 1, 1918 in Floyds Knobs to the late Joseph and Margaret Sprigler. Anna lived in Sellersburg for the past 37 years and was a devoted member of St. Joe Hill Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Eckert, her brothers Joe, Tip, Oscar and Charles Sprigler, her sisters Louise Kruer and Mary Gaston, her granddaughter, Anne Eckert and her grandson Travis Eckert.

Anna is survived by her devoted children, sons E.J. (Ed) Eckert and his wife, Kate, of Effingham, IL, and Frank Eckert and his wife, Lethia, of Sellersburg, daughters Judy Fuesting and her husband, Donald, of Murphy, N.C., Jane Barnes and her husband, Arvil, of Crestview, Fl, Cindy Kleehamer and her husband, Donald, and Mary Rager and her husband, Dennis, both of Sellersburg, IN. She is also survived by her brother, Pete Sprigler of Floyds Knobs and two sisters, Minnie Larson of Minnesota, and Jane Naville of Floyds Knobs. She was the proud grandmother of 16 grandchildren, Joe, Paul, Mike, Tony and Mark Eckert, Rob and Shawn Harpe, Angela Fortune, Teresa Eckert, Jason Barnes, Keith and Jacob Kleehamer, Sarah Jourden, and Mike, Wes and Andy Rager; great grandma (GG) to 25, Brock Eckert, Chelsea and Seth Kline, Katie Eckert, Vincent Eckert, Menno, Edrick, Jakob and Jorganna Eckert, Carrie, Dustin and Charlie Harpe, Matthew and Cassie Harpe, Rusty, Amber, Daniel and Jessie Ann Fortune, Jason Jr (JJ) and Daniel Barnes and Anthony Jacob (AJ) and Toby Kleehamer and Addison Kleehamer; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Christian and Carter Harpe.

Anna retired from St. Joe Hill Church in 2002. She had such a bubbly personality and her presence could brighten the darkest room. She loved traveling and new adventures and spending time with her children and her grandchildren. Anna was known by all those who loved her as an avid Euchre player – her absolute favorite pastime!

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Newcomer Funeral Home – Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A Rosary will take place at 4:00 p.m. Her funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Joe Hill Catholic Church in Sellersburg with burial in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Joe Hill Catholic Church or to Vista Care Hospice Service (391 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, IN 47130).
