Andrew Henry Susemichel, age 80, of Prospect, Kentucky passed away on April 11, 2024 at Baptist Health of Louisville. He was born September 20, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky to Henry and Ollie (Graef) Susemichel. He was a graduate of Atherton High School and the University of Louisville Speed School. He was a member of Highview Baptist Church, Bible Study Fellowship, former member of the Southern Baptist Seminary Foundation and active supporter, and was owner of his engineering company "E-max".

He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Joan (Noel) Susemichel. Andrew is survived by his daughter, Laura Pickett and granddaughter, Ella Pickett.

Andrew grew up in Louisville's Germantown with his parents who owned and operated a hardware store and plumbing business. Upon graduation from University of Louisville in 1966 he became a graduate student and Instructor of Mechanical Engineering. He met his wife Joan though one of his students in 1967 and they married in 1972.

In 1969 Andrew started an engineering business. In 1974, through Andrew's mentor, Martin Sweet's company, Andrew's engineering company were the design engineers of the urethane anchor insulator for the Trans Alaska Pipeline. The National Society of Professional Engineers awarded a national engineering achievement award for the pipeline insulation to Owens Corning, the main contractor for that project.

In the late 1970's and in the 1980's Andrew's engineering company, though their experience in energy efficiency helped over thirty school districts and four hospital groups in Kentucky and Indiana become energy efficient. Federal oil over charge funding grants from the Arab embargo of the 1970's was used to assist all the schools and hospital become energy efficient.

In the 1980's Andrew's company engineered a radio-based energy management system for most of the Jefferson County Schools and Fayette County Schools to control energy. That project helped Jefferson County Schools earn the Department of Energy top school energy efficiency achievement award.

From the mid 1980's though 2016 Andrew's engineering firm had a contract to do the commercial energy efficiency energy audits for LG&E Energy, Kentucky Utilities and several other Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee utilities. The results of these energy audits were a reduced demand on the utilities plus annual dollar energy savings to thousands of these utilities commercial customers.

In 2007 Yum Brands contracted with Andrew's engineering company E-Max to provide over 2,000 energy management systems for their KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Long Johns Silvers restaurants across the country. Andrew company continues to support that energy control today.

In 1989 Andrew's mentor, Martin Sweets, invited Andrew and Joan to be part of a morning Bible study. Andrew grew to a saving knowledge of Christ though that study.

In 1990 he committed his engineering company to be a Christian company. That same year an employee let Andrew to help start Bible Study Fellowship in Louisville. Andrew was the class administrator of that class for years.

In 1993 when the Southern Baptist Seminary came into the leadership of Albert Mohler Andrew was invited into the seminary foundation. Andrew and Joan continued to be active supporting the seminary the rest of their life.

Joan, Andrew's love of his life, was active in Andrew's engineering company as the firm's financial manager from the 1970's to the early 1990's.

In 1989 Joan started an interior design and pottery business and helped Andrew find a qualified person to take her financial management responsibilities.

In the middle 1990's Andrew and Joan joined Highview Baptist Church. They were part of a group of members who witnessed to people to start Highview Baptist Church East Campus in 2000.

A gathering will be held from 9:30am to 10:00 am at Highview Baptist Church, 7711 Fegenbush Lane Louisville Kentucky 40228 with a celebration of life service to follow at 10am. Interment will be at Cave Hill Cemetery Lakeview Mausoleum.

The family suggests memorials to Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville and Bible Study Fellowship International in San Antonio, Texas in leu of flowers.
