Alpha Pruett, age 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on June 5th, 2023. She was born on March 20th, 1933, in Eastern Kentucky, to her loving parents, Ollie Couch and Elbert Smallwood. Alpha was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: William Smallwood, Jesse Smallwood, George Smallwood, Martha Gilbert, Leslie Smallwood, Carolyn Morgan, Elmer Smallwood, and Clay Morgan. Alpha was also preceded in death by her late husband, Hugh "Eddie" Pruett.
Alpha is survived by her cherished daughter, Cindy Hibbard, her beloved granddaughters, April (Casey James) and Betty Anne Hibbard, her sister, Wanda Goode, and her caretaker, William Hibbard. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Grant, Pierce, and William, who brought immense joy and happiness to her life.
Alpha had a zest for life and a sense of humor that brightened every room she entered. She approached every situation with a lighthearted perspective, finding humor in the most unexpected places. Her quick wit and contagious laughter brought smiles to the faces of those around her. In addition to her sense of humor, Alpha was a devoted member of the Church of God for an impressive 65 years, finding solace, community, and spiritual nourishment within her faith. She was actively involved in teaching Sunday school, sharing her wisdom and love for God with others.
Alpha also had a passion for planting and caring for flowers. She found joy in tending to her garden, watching the blooms flourish, and creating a beautiful outdoor space. Her green thumb brought beauty and tranquility to her surroundings, reflecting her love for nature and the simple pleasures of life.
Alpha had a kind and generous heart, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She deeply loved her family and cherished the time spent with her daughter, Cindy, and granddaughter, April. One of Alpha's other passions in life was collecting various items. She found great joy in the thrill of yard sales, discovering hidden treasures, and seeing value and purpose in even the simplest things. She had a unique ability to find beauty in everyday life and appreciate the little pleasures that others might overlook.
Alpha Pruett's kind spirit, love for her family, sense of humor, dedication to teaching Sunday school, and her passion for flowers will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of compassion, laughter, faith, and the memories shared with her family will live on forever.
Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive). A service to celebrate Alpha's life will be the following day at 11 AM at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville.
