Alonzo Joseph "Lonnie" Smith, 80, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was a member of Highland Avenue Holiness Church in Corydon, Indiana. Lonnie retired as a mechanic from Irvin H. Whitehouse & Sons. He enjoyed cooking and baking, as well as gardening and working out in his yard.
He was born on April 5, 1940 in Frenchtown, Indiana to the late Cort and Elsie (Wiseman) Smith. Lonnie was also preceded in death by his daughter, Tami Robbins.
Lonnie is survived by his daughters, Cindy Smith (Curtis), Jackie Keithley (Doug), Billie Edlin (Bob), Dawn Waterbury (Junior); siblings, Ruth Wright (Sheldon), Lewis Smith (Hazel), Denzil Smith (Gerry), Wanda Weaver (Jerry), Kelta Sherman (Brian); thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Wednesday after 9:00 a.m. His Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the chapel at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
