Alma Mae (Barbour) Henderson, 87, was born on December 24, 1935, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Clarence and Lottie (Meyers) Barbour. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Westfall Henderson.
Alma attended and graduated from New Albany High School in 1955.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a former member of Howard Chapel Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. Alma later became a member of Revelation Tabernacle. She was a very talented person. She loved singing, dancing, and playing the piano. She had a very good sense of humor and loved to make others laugh.
Alma was united in holy matrimony to the late Carl Westfall Henderson for some 30 years before his passing in 1992.
Alma was an employee at Fischer's Meat Packing Co. until her early retirement in 1989.
She departed this life on Friday morning, February 3, 2023, at her home in New Albany, Indiana. She leaves to mourn her three sons, Michael (Valerie) Henderson, Carl Mark Henderson, and Robert Kirk Henderson; two grandchildren, Candace and Robert Henderson; three great-grandchildren, California, Malachi Henderson, and Jace; three surviving siblings, Edith Kane, Claudette Foster, and Robert (Charlestine) Barbour; along with a host of nieces and nephews and cousins; Valerie Munden, a beloved friend and caregiver; and Vicky Summerall, a devoted friend and a great help.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). Her Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
