Alice Jane Murray, 82 of Prospect, Ky., passed away quietly Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. She was the former Alice Jane Fowler, a past member of St. Williams and St. Denis Church. Alice was always concerned about caring for others, as proven by the lifelong service and passion she provided as a registered nurse tending to newborn babies, the sick and elderly and less fortunate among us. She graduated in 1949 from Our Lady of Mercy Academy and St. Mary and Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1952. She worked at St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital for 51 years until her retirement in 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Harriett Fowler; brothers, Joe, Ted and Tommy Fowler; sisters, Maudwina Singleton and Helen Binder.
Alice is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bob Murray; sons, Skip (Cynthia) and John (Cindy) Murray; daughter, Harriett Beck; grandchildren, Cody Beck and Stephen, Collin, Erin, Blaine and Meredith Murray; sisters, Emma Jean Dierking, Barbara O'Leary (Pat), Rita Lincoln, Donna Lueke and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of celebration will be at 12:30 p.m. at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 6500 St. Bernadette Avenue in Prospect, KY., where Alice was a member. Burial will follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be 3-8p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 - 11:45 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive. Memorials may be made to Cedar Lake Lodge or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
