Alan Wayne Herthel

Alan Wayne Herthel, 65, loving son, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, of Greenville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and retired from Republic Services in Louisville.

He strived to always be a good provider for his family and was willing to help them out in any way that he could. Alan had a great sense of humor, loved teasing with his daughters and was proud of the fact that he taught each of them how to style their hair. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, boating and four-wheeling.

He was born on October 23, 1957 in New Albany, Indiana to Artie Herthel and the late Cara (Johnson) Herthel. In addition to his mother, Alan was preceded in death by his wife, Tenia; sister, Inez Herthel; and son-in-law, Kurt Sheets.

Along with his father, Alan is survived by his daughters, April Dexter, Shannon Nichols (Josh), Crystal Sheets, Cara Hubert (fiancée, Jacob Richard); 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his four-legged companion, Wolfe.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A graveside service with military honors will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Edwardsville Cemetery.
