Agnes "Nana" Edwards, 99, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away January 30, 2023, at home with her family of natural causes.
She was born in Estill County, Kentucky, to Joe and Polly (Vaughn) Howell on October 12, 1923. She grew up in Estill with her eight sisters doting on her. She grew up on a farm and walked or rode a horse to school.
She moved to Louisville after high school and began her career with Selmans and then Bell South as an operator. After she retired from Bell South, Nana enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She married Joe Boyce Edwards in June of 1979.
Nana spent time volunteering with various ministries at Southeast Christian Church. She also enjoyed the many opportunities she had to travel. Nana enjoyed cooking and baking and was quite good at it. Her family was fond of her biscuits, cornbread and chocolate pies.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and cared for them after school ended on most days. She had a sharp mind and told entertaining stories, sometimes with a hint of exaggeration. Even in her last few days, she told stories about time spent with loved ones from throughout her life.
She is survived by her children Marsha (Bruce) Hall and Vicki Lahman, her step-daughters Cindy (Todd) Horstmeyer and Vicki Edwards, her 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Edwards, her parents Polly and Joe Howell and her eight sisters.
