Ada Myrl (Skaggs) Galbraith, died Monday, September 12, at the age of 94 at Autumn Woods Health Campus in New Albany, Indiana.
Myrl is preceded in death by her spouse of 37 years, Don Galbraith; as well as her parents, Lee and Ada Skaggs. Additionally, she leaves behind four nephews and five nieces, Charles, Dana, William Gale, Roy L.; and nieces Ruth, Alice, Kathy, Patty, and Eleanor.
Myrl attended Berea Academy, Berea, Kentucky, and Morehead State College, Morehead, Kentucky. At Morehead, Myrl met the love of her life, Don Galbraith of Plainfield, New Jersey. They married and had one child, Gregory, who died shortly after birth.
After moving to New Jersey with Don in 1946, Myrl was employed for almost thirty years as a stenographer and transcription specialist at a large chemical company. After retirement, Myrl and Don Galbraith moved to their tobacco farm near Morehead, Kentucky.
Myrl's passions were people and pets. She delighted in owning three large collies, Lucky, Lassie, and Jeff. In her later years, she learned to appreciate smaller dogs, such as dear Cavalier Pahly and sweet Pomeranian Bella.
Myrl enjoyed clothes and dressing up. She was always ready for a get-together with friends and family. You could count on her for a chocolate cake anytime she was invited.
A memorial service for Myrl will be announced at a later date. Gifts in Myrl's memory can be sent to Rowan County Humane Society, 305 Bullifork Road, Morehead, KY 40351.
As her great nephew, Travis exclaimed, "Everybody needs an Aunt Myrl in the family."
Aunt Myrl, your passing is the end to an era in our family. Your legacy of embracing life to its fullest despite some pretty harsh knocks was a gift you gave each of us.
