Joyce Louise Cleveland Tharpe was born on August 31, 1937 in Tucson, AZ, died in Cocoa, FL on April 20, 2012. She had lived her early years in TX before moving to Louisville, KY where she married Jack Turner Tharpe on March 14, 1958. They lived most of their married life, except for their travel during Jack's military years in Louisville, married for 43 years before her beloved Jack died on April 21, 2001. After his death, she also lived in LaGrange, KY and Cocoa, FL.
In addition to her husband Jack, she was preceded in death by her parents, John William and Christine (Bridewell) Cleveland and brothers, James William Cleveland and Donald Byron Robinson. Joyce is survived by 1 son, Dennis Turner (Karen Sells) Tharpe, of LaGrange, KY, 1 daughter, Pamela Doris (James Ray) Childress, four granddaughters: Victoria Anne Tharpe; Ashley Marie, Hannah Louise & Morgan Raie Childress and one grandson Hunter Ray Childress, all of Cocoa, FL; two sisters, Billye D. (Golden C. "Joe") Jackson; Charlotte C. (Jesse W. III) Glance; Sister's-in-law, Carolyn C. (Donald B.) Robinson, Joyce (Robert) Deatrick, Doris Mae Tharpe and many nephews and nieces, most all of Louisville.
She was baptized into the Church of Christ at Boles Orphan Home, Quinlan, TX in her early years. She enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren, her three kitties; playing bingo and for many years, researching her family history. She was a graduate of DuPont Manual High School, Class of 1955, a member of the John Brewer Chapter, National Society Colonial Dames of the 17th Century and a past member of Guadalupe Victoria Daughters of the American Revolution.
Funeral ceremony will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 25th at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown with visitation 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
