Robert D. Cole, 84, of New Albany passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2011. Bob was World War II U. S. Army veteran who retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as an Ohio River lock and dam operator. A former member of the Moose Lodge in Lebanon, Indiana, he was passionate about fishing. Quite artistic and skilled in woodworking, he was well known for his sense of humor and will be missed greatly by his many friends and family.
Bob was born on July 11, 1927 in Leavenworth, Indiana to the late Gladden O. and Sylvia B. (Breeden) Cole. He is also preceded in death by his brother, William Cole.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude H. (Jenkins) Cole; daughters, Marilyn Vick (Delbert "Dee") of Sellersburg, Indiana and Sandra Davis (Wilford) of Monticello, Indiana; grandchildren, Dwayne Davis, Kimberly Davis-Shoff, Lawnie Franks, Stacey Shelton, and Dodi Vick; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Juanita Cole.
His Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service is 11 AM on Thursday, December 1 at the funeral home followed by burial with military honors at Leavenworth Memorial Gardens in Leavenworth, Indiana.
