Linda Carolyn Schooler McCarty, 69, peacefully went to be with her Lord on the evening of Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.
A Louisville native, Linda is survived by her husband, John (Jack) S. McCarty, three children; Adam (Ashley); Amanda McCarty Stinson (Tommy) and Melissa McCarty Shaw (Robby). She is also survived by three grandchildren that she adored; Gracie Eybel, Theodore Jack (Theo) Stinson and Robert (Beau) William Shaw V, all of Louisville. Additional survivors include her siblings Larry (Sue) Schooler; Gary Schooler, and Janis (Alan) Schooler Smith of Ft. Myers, FL, sister-in-law Stephanie Vorhoff, of Louisville and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graduate of Westport High School, Linda continued her education and became a Registered Nurse with Norton Hospital where she worked for over 40 years in various positions.
Linda led an extraordinary life...A life of selfless giving and love. She was devoted to her family, friends and to her faith. She always had a smile on her face that would light up the room, and joy in her welcoming voice. Most spring/summer days you would find her working in her yard, tending to her hummingbird feeders, then relaxing on the screened-in porch reading a book. Come fall/winter, she was a season ticket holding, die-hard University of Louisville fan. Go Cards!
Her faith was the grounding force in her life. As a member of Middletown Christian Church for 40 years, her involvement in the church was very important to her daily life. So much that, earlier this year, Linda was named "Elder Emeritus" in recognition of her long-standing, impactful and influential service to the Church. She supported the Church in many ways over the years, impacting the lives of those both young and old. She served as the fourth grade Sunday School teacher for over 35 years; volunteered for over 20 years as a Bible Storytime Leader for Vacation Bible School, served as a volunteer tutor in the Church's Learning Center, greeted and prayed with Baptismal candidates on the Sunday morning of their Baptism; group leader for over 20 years of a Bible Study group with the most recent group called "Sisters in Christ".
In addition to her church activities, Linda took part in several mission trips to Appalachia. Her commitment to serve also extended across the seas to Belize to build homes for those in need. She was also part of a group that threw birthday parties once a month for children living in residential care at Uspiritus.
Visitation will be at Middletown Christian Church on Tuesday, Sept. 12th from 11am until 2pm. A Celebration of Linda's Life will immediately follow at 2pm – 3pm at the church.
