Samuel Eugene Phillips Sr.

Samuel Eugene Phillips Sr., 86, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023. Samuel was a hard worker and he was very proud to work at Brown-Foreman for 30 faithful years. He loved and adored his wife, kids, and grandkids. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always prepared with a joke with a strong mind and body. He lived a very peaceful life and enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle, shooting pool, the worlds best checker player, which he taught every grandchild how to play. He was a very giving person, if you needed something he was open minded to help you. He had an open door policy and was known as the neighborhood grandpa. Every word spoken was a lesson and he was wise beyond his years. Samuel will truly be missed by anyone and everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

He was born on January 9, 1937 in Sonora, Kentucky to James and Marie (Harris) Phillips. He is preceded in death by his Father, James Roy Phillips, Sr., Mother, Marie Phillips; Grandchildren, Brittaney Roberts and Sammie Phillips, Jr.; Siblings, Carrie Lee Richardson, James Roy Phillips, Sr., Martha Jane Johnson, and James Harvey Phillips.

Samuel is survived by his loving Wife of 41 years, Barbara Jo Phillips; Children, Ronald Eugene Phillips, Barbara (Keith) Roberts-Talbott, Valerie (Robert) Gains, Lisa K. (Keith) Roberts-Maxwell, and Michael Eugene (Schaneaka) Roberts; Grandchildren, Lakesha Roberts, DeMarcus Blakemore, Jordan (Ryan) Blakemore, Birdie Maxwell, Aileena Roberts, Michael Roberts, Jr., Braylon Roberts, Monique Phillips Dominique Phillips, Ronald E. (Charity) Phillips, Jr, Cassie (Matthew) Phillips, and Montel Phillips; Great-Grandchildren, Cory Stephenson, Jr., Jeremiah Ellis, Deauni Dorsey, and Ja'Mariyah Render; Great-Great-Grandchildren, Cory Stephenson, III and A'Million Stephenson; Sisters, Betty Ann Phillips and Sarah Francis "Dot" (Donald) Compton, as well as a host of family and friends to cherish his memory forever.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, July 17, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Home Going Service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel.
