Donald Eugene Williams

Donald Eugene Williams, affectionately known as Donnie, was born on March 29, 1962, in Louisville, Kentucky, he was the son of Ida Williams and George Hooper.

Donnie expressed his devotion to Christ by confessing his hope at an early age at Guiding Star Baptist Church.

Donnie received his education within the Jefferson County Public Schools system, where he developed a reputation for being a fun and adventurous child. In 1980, he proudly graduated from Southern High School. During his time there, Donnie's athleticism shone brightly as he became a star basketball player, captivating audiences with his exceptional skills on the court.

His extraordinary talent and hard work led to an incredible opportunity—an athletic scholarship to play basketball for Southern Texas Community College. Donnie seized this chance to further his passion for the game.

Following his basketball career, Donnie transitioned into the realm of manufacturing and other hands-on occupations. He utilized his skilled hands to contribute to various industries.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Donnie will be remembered for his warm and genuine personality. He had a natural ability to connect with others, always displaying a compassionate spirit and a willingness to lend a helping hand. His infectious laughter and kind-hearted nature left an impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In his leisure time, Donnie had a passion for sports and continued to follow basketball, football, and wrestling, avidly. One of Donnie's greatest joys in life was supporting his niece's basketball endeavors. He was a dedicated fan, attending her games for the University Of Louisville with unwavering enthusiasm. Donnie's presence in the stands, cheering, calling plays, and arguing with the officials, was a testament to his love and unwavering support.

He relished spending time with family and friends, joking, sharing stories, and engaging in "spirited" conversations. He loved to cook, watch old westerns, and listen to music. Donnie's presence brought joy to any gathering and will forever be treasured. His favorite quote was 'Blue Eyes, Blues Eyes, I DID IT MY WAY!" – Frank Sinatra

Donald Eugene Williams was predeceased by his parents and grandparents, Josephine and Maurice Williams. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Dominique Yarbrough, brother, John Williams, and sisters, Armentia Hudson and Cynthia Gibson (Steve), nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins, family and friends and his newfound love, Shacola Dorsey. Although he has departed from us, his spirit will live on in the memories and hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we bid farewell to our dear Donnie, let us celebrate the man he was. May he find eternal peace and rest in the loving arms of his Creator.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY, from 10am-1pm with a celebration of Donald's life beginning at 1pm.

Donald will be laid to rest at Green Meadows Cemetery, 3800 Shanks Lane, Louisville, KY.
